The wallon church is a curiosity in the Netherlands. It has been founded by the Protestants, which were expelled from the Spanish Netherlands during the 80 years war in the XVI century. Today, Belgium is a rather catholic country, but in earlier times it used to be also quite reformist. The city of Tournay was, for example considered as the Geneva of the North with a majority of Protestants as well as Limbourg, another town in Wallonia. The Wallon Church is still in tight relation with the Dutch monarchy because of the chaplain of Willhem of Orange, the founder of the Dutch dynasty, was wallon. Today, it is still possible to assist a church service in French in the Netherlands like for example in Utrecht.
