Belgians, particularly the Walloons, have a longstanding tradition of establishing networks abroad. Whether through joint projects, chambers of commerce, sports clubs, or various initiatives, Belgian communities can be found in every corner of the globe. And South Korea is no exception.
A shining example of this is the Belgian Korean Business Forum (BKBF). Founded back in 1992 by a group of friends in Seoul, this organization remains a vital part of the Belgian community here in South Korea. While the dynamics change with everyone’s comings and goings, the goal is still the same: to support Belgians living in Korea and strengthen the ties between our two countries.
To achieve this, the BKBF hosts several events throughout the year. From networking evenings and tours to support for economic, academic, and cultural missions, every occasion is a chance to connect and showcase what Belgium has to offer. A perfect example is the 2024 Seoul Friendship Festival, where the BKBF set up a booth to highlight our Belgian expertise. And let’s not forget about our amazing beers! Belgian beers, including some from Wallonia, were served to the delight of all our visitors, all in a warm and friendly atmosphere, just like home!
But what truly makes the BKBF special is the people involved. Every member is a volunteer. This dedication shows the passion and commitment of the Belgian community to support one another, especially those who are far from home, while keeping a strong connection to Belgium (and Wallonia).
Today, the Belgian Korean Business Forum continues to play an important role in South Korea, serving as a gathering point for Belgians and creating opportunities for cultural and economic exchanges. If you’re visiting the Land of the Morning Calm or living here, we’d love for you to join one of our events and see firsthand what makes our community so strong and united.
